Kevin Costner or Mel Brooks (Robin Hood (Men in Tights) had a wood bow, your boat has a wood bow and stern -- which might give more weight to the Men in Tights claim, as there was some wooden acting in that film, too.

W.C.Fields (he avoided water because of what the fish did in it.)
