You say you have planes. For my solution to the same problem, I put a 24" plane upside down in a vice and pulled strips across the blade while holding the strip with a gloved hand over the plane. I could then vary the bevel angle with the gloved hand, while pulling the strip through with the other. - Just a thought. - Scott
