Hi bill, I am also a new but compulsive sea kayaker. I too was wanting something better than my plastic boat. I looked at building a stripper and will do so someday. I decide to go with a S&G for now and I agonized over which company and model. I decided to go with Pygmy for various reasons and chose the Coho as my project. I am very glad I picked the Coho. The kit was precision cut from BS1088 Okume plywood and everything fits perfectly with the aid of 5 tempoary forms. Pygmy' weights are right on. claimed 39#, actual 39#. All wires are removed from boat and glass is used inside and out.

The performance is much more than I expected. She tracks extremly well even with a slight rockered hull. She also turns easily especially with leaned turns. This boat does not need a rudder, I cant make it weathercock.

I could not be more pleased with performance or looks with the Coho. John Lockwood has created a design that has everything I could want: Light weight, fast, strong tracking, maneuverable, no weathercocking, large carrying cap., and quite nice to look at.
