>I built a pair for my roof. I did similiar to Pete's suggestion. I would further suggest contact cementing indoor outdoor carpet to the closed mini-cell foam to eliminate it grabbing when sliding the kayak on it. I also made pads to protect from the metal buckles "much like the store bought TLC straps" by cutting up a mouse pad into strips and passing the strap threw it and contacting the buckle side in place the other side is free. One caution is that the color could rub off the pads print. I use the black "rubber" side with good results. Good luck Tony
