I cant speak for georges technique but I can tell you that I also sealed the wood with a coat of epoxey befor laying down my first layer of cloth. Beyond the technical difficulties (read on) I still think that sealing the wood first is the right thing to do. It really (Ithink) gives you control over your surfaces. The problem that I experienced was that I didnt wait long enough for the sealer coat to dry before laying out my cloth. This point certainly begs the questions, well, how long is long enough and how long is too long? I dont know, perhaps GR will know. Anyways what happened is that when I laid down my fabric to spread it out, it stuck. So I had to rip it up, smooth it out, restick it sown etc etc. It took me about 30 minutes of messing with it to get it right and mostly wrinkle free.

Now, the bad part, after getting my fabric down and smooth, I applied my first coat of epoxy over the glass. It all was going fine until the new coat softened the sealer coat (which was holding down the now-stretched fabric) and after about two hours of curing I had one big mess of wrinkles. This is probably the biggest reason for wiping off the excess epoxy before applying the glass. Cure time is probably the second.

So by letting the thing cure and just sanding down (and through) the wrinkles I had an ok surface for my second layer of cloth . I wasnt brave enough to do them both at the same time as recommended.
