A quick search of the net showed a few URLs of interest.

www.canoe.org.au www.canoevic.org.au

The top one is a list of Australian canoe (that also means kayak there) groups and added info. When you get to their homepage, scroll down the left column to the topic: `where to go' and click on canoe clubs. Click on the map of Australia down by Melbourne, and you'll get a large listing of canoe (kayak) clubs in that area. With a good map of the area and all of the phone numbers they provide you should be able to call several clubs in the area, explain your situation and get recommendations on rentals. Might be that you could borrow or rent boats cheaper from a club, or member of a club, than from a retailer.

The second one is for the Victoria Canoe Club, which is headquartered in Melbourne (or nearby) They have phone numbers, addresses, and a link to the Victorian Board of Canoe Education. Sounds like they have kayaking schools there. If so, you should be able to get references to rental or retail firms. Hope this helps. Paul Jacobson
