CLC stitch'n'glue hulls commonly have a sheer clamp like this on the inside of the hull/deck joint. It allows a solid joint without the need for a layer of glass tape at the seam. This approach should work well for any boat that has about a 90 degree angle between the deck and hull. Just install the sheer clamps and plane a bevel on the top surface to match the slope of the deck. Then you can attach the deck by whatever means you choose. The CLC method is to coat the sheer clamps with thickened epoxy and nail the plywood deck every 4 inches with brass tacks. This produced a nice traditional look. You could staple the deck on and remove the staples later, or if the deck material was thicker, you could screw it on and countersink and cover the screwheads. I suppose if you were a clamping master you could just glue it on without any mechanical fasteners.
