I mentioned this method once before, but you may not find it looking at past responses. You can tack fiberglass tape to the deck with an electric glue gun, a dab of glue every 5 inches or so. (I like 1 1'2" tape) You attach the tape half way down along the shear so when you attach the deck it's now held in place. Wet it out with a brush on a stick that you can push up into the bow and stern. Do one side at a time with the boat on it's side. Let it harden before doing the other side. The epoxy will flow into the bevel joint. Make sure you have the outside joint taped to trap the epoxy. Wet it down pretty well.

This will be way stronger than your proposed method.
