What I meant was regarding the consequences of a similar type of failure. If a kayak delaminates while I'm paddling around in the harbor it's not usually as bad as if the same type of delamination occurs while I'm flying around near my home airport, for example. PFD's just don't work as well with aircraft over ground. Even parachutes give less consistent results.
