On my last boat I kept a stricter eye on time. I averaged an hour a strip. Some 15 minutes and some 1 1/2 hrs etc. On my deck I rip a 8 or 11 degree edge which eliminates any block plane work whatsoever. My entire front deck gets stripped in 2 hours. Don't get me wrong, I think cove and bead is stronger. However I did a few break test with some sample strps. In my own break tests, many times the wood would break when I tried to break some strips apart. A few times the glue joint went - but I was surprised at the strength.

It seems like doing it by hand would be really hard - even to hold the strip and the cutter would have to always be razor sharp. The advantage of the router is it's super high speed turning which allows for no choping into wierd grain etc. If I wanted cove and bead that bad, I personaly would go for the second router.
