Yeah, and no matter how much engineering goes into a car, someone is going to go to the dealer and say "I want a red one". I have a plastic boat right now that has been wrapped partway around a dock, grounded on a reef, and scraped up and down a dozen rocky shores. So why am I thinking of building a cedar strip kayak? Not for the engineering specs, that's for sure! I don't care how much glass you lay on, it'll never be as durable as plastic. Or, how about this: 12 ounces of glass over a core of 1/4 inch stainless steel?
