I used RAKA epoxy and did the sealer coat. Did a test on another piece without it then thought I could put a sealer on thin and the wood would not soak up as much epoxy as if I just wetted out the glass on bare wood. I waited 24 hours, sanded the little raised wood grains off (any slight bump in the wood can bridge the glass and require a bit more epoxy = more weight) The glass seemed to wet out better than the test piece did. All this could just be in my head, but that's what the thought process was for me. Right now my hull and deck are glassed, no rim on the coaming riser yet, just deck and hull and the total weight is 28 pounds. YMMV
