: Whats wrong with experimentation?

: The Cormorant (which is what I will probably do next) hull is downloaded from
: the squeedunk site. As far as the deck goes I can do what ever I like.
: My Cirrus [plans are not hyrbrid plans although I could modify the deck forms
: but as I mentioned, why not experiment to individualise a product.

Nothing! I wasn't attacking you, but asking a question! I usually experiment from some sort of measurable baseline or benchmark. I actually (ask Vaclav) built the first hybrid Cirrus, before Vaclav had designed one, which fired off numerous requests for a hybrid Cirrus. But now that the Cirrus plans are available as a hybrid, it just made sense to me to make that suggestion. Since you have the S&G only plans, just modify the forms. The only suggestion I'd make is that some sort of radius on the rear deck is helpful for strength for reentry, etc. A flat deck will require some form of reinforcement. Also, I wanted to preserve a panel/bevel effect on the front deck and wasn't crazy about the way it turned out, somewhat irregular. If you want more volume, run a radius outside the forms from point to point. For less volume, run a fair radius on each form on the inside from midpoint to midpoint on the lines between the panels. Vaclav's knowledge-base is just awesome, so I wouldn't be inclined to experiment with one of the designs until I'd discussed it with him. For example, he and I have been trading a bunch of emails about my desire to build a shorter Cape Ann Expedition. I usually don't try to second-guess designers, even though experimentation is tons of fun.

Have fun - Jim
