: Here's my way: Make a midnight raid to your local elementary school and empty
: all the pencil sharpeners into a brown paper bag, plastic won't work. Then
: all you have to do is seperate the black stuff from the brown, easy as
: tipping a kayak!

: . . . you take your mechanical pencil,
: we ain't gonna waste time sharpening some non-rolling rectangular
: sectioned carpenters mistake maker, no, we're gonna click-click our way to
: to a slippy slidy graphite protected killer kayak. . .

The problem here is that pencil leads are made of a mixture of carbon (usually graphite) and clay. The amount of actual graphite you would get by chewing up a couple dozen pencils is questionable.

However, for a small amount of graphite you can head to the key and lock department at most any hardware store, where it is sold for lubricating locks. In the snowbelt you can find this stuff at auto part shops and even a lot of gas stations throughout the winter.

If you just want to paint a strip of this down the keel you won;t need much. The price of a couple tubes locally may be less than the shipping costs for a minimum order of the material from a mail-order supplier.
