: while doing an accent strip with walnut, I've ended up with a few gaps that
: are a bit larger than usual. One gap (see pic below) ocurred when the stip
: lifted a bit. The second gap
: (http://www.dryfly.ca/gallery2/v/canoe/DSC_0617.JPG.html) happened because
: the pinstrip wasn't milled/cut quite evenly.

: Is it worth it to try and cut the glue where the strip lifted, and then
: re-glue and clamp it down? I don't know if I'll be able to improve it, and
: I might make it worse.

: As for the gap shown in the link above, I suppose I'll just fill it with
: something. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.

: cheers

You can fix anything while you are still in the wood stripping stage,
and it's worth every effort to do it now!

Put a new blade in your utility knife.

Cut that butt joint carefully down the joint trying not to remove
any wood which will create a new gap in the butt joint.

Cut on the glue line to the left on the strip with the gap. Go about 6"
further than you think you should. This will allow you to bend the strip
out so you can clean off the old glue. Dry fit it and dry clamp it to make sure
it will stay where you want it to stay BEFORE you apply glue.

Most importantly, make sure all your strip edges align.

ANY place where they are out of alignment a 16th of an inch
or more should be fixed now instead of hoping you can fair it out later.

This stitch in time, will save nine.
