Hi,

I just finished stripping a 16' Champlain(Bear Mountain Canoes). It has the old style curved back stems. I used 20' redwood planks to make the strips. Then a strip of mahogany for an accent. The redwood planks were either solid red or solid white so I have some nice contrasting colors.

One thing to consider is how you would like the strips to run because the look is quite different. You can either run the strips parallel to the waterline or run them with the curve at the gunwales. I ran the strips straight but think that maybe it would have looked better curved because the stems on the canoe have quite a curve. It's something that I should have considered early on but went blindly with the instructions instead.

Have you machined strips before or are you going to buy them? If you are not confortable with machining strips then it can make for an unpleasant experience.
