: Dang!! That's a sh#tload of strips, Rehd!!

Yeh, this guy builds his canoe's 4 at a time, and these boards were all of his rejects from the past year. Normally he stacks and numbers them for book-matching and stuff... but these came from the cracked or damaged boards and he was wanting to use them up. Want's to go out of business.. He's only going to build two more boats, "he says". It's all clear heart wood, and about 30% of it was quartersawn.

He's giving me the poplar because it was given to him... Some Asian farmers around here were going to drive them in the ground to hold up vines... didn't come pick them up, so the lumber yard gave them to this guy... he doesn't like anything but redwood, so, we cut it all up the past few days and I'm taking it home to use. Most of it is white, some varigated green/white and a few sticks all green. I think there's over 1,000 strips.. I feel like there's over 1,000 strips..

I told him I'd take the bad stuff off his hands..
We'll see what happens..

I'd like to build a couple of short, 9 or 10' canoes for the kids to play in, or fish from. I will probably sell some of them for a reasonable fee.. although not sure how to ship them just yet. ? Also considering building a couple more canoes with the kids at Church( AWANA ).

I'll know in a day or so what all I'll have to work with when it's all done.

Good timing too, as I'm just about done with my new little boat shop out back..
Been 1 1/2 years in the making, and it's time to get back to building.
