I find that they tend to be more "fair" around the forms if there are imperfections, usually i look at the bow sections in a design, if i see that they are pinched i dont try with wide strips. On roundish sections they work fine, a combination of wide and thin would get you on any hull shape, i wouldnt know how it would look though.
