I have both books and Ted Moore's Canoecraft seems to be the more refined method of building. It's interesting to see Gilpatrick's approach though and I will consider incorporating some of his techniques. I'm also considering some of his designs (the 18 1/2' E.M. White Guide) for the next project. But then again I'm considering one helluva pile of different boats for the next project.

Don't limit yourself. Check out a couple of books, as well as canoe designs from a variety of sources.
