Last Winter I installed a homemade retractable skeg in a client's kayak and I used a Teflon based spray lube called "Jig-A-Loo" on the cable. He used it a lot this Summer in salt and non-salt water without any problems with the mechanism. I suggested that he remove, clean and re-lube the cable at the beginning of each paddling season.
