I had the same problem with my AT backband. I have the old style Tern without the recessed coaming. I drilled holes lower in the back of the Pygmy plastic backband and attached the cord from there to the strap eye on the rear of the coaming. This raised the backband up higher on my back and gave me a lot more support. Downside is, I'm on my third backband. The first two broke at the screw hole in the hip brace. Must have too much strain on them.
