Wonderful info guys.

If it helps the gasket situation I tried with success a natural rubber material from Lowes. Its in the weatherstripping aisle. It is cut with a bevel and is pretty wide. I used a razor to strip it down to the desired width and glued it in with contact cement. It feel like natural rubber when you touch it. Its a bit pricey at $16 but you get wayyy more than you need.
