Well, after I thought about it, worked out a way to use plywood to form the coaming recess, I changed my mind and did it in cedar strip. The result is below. Well worth the effort.

I also put the boat on the floor today and sat in it. The deck knee bump outs worked!!! I don't think that the deck is too high, so knuckle bashing will be avoided. I did redesign the deck slightly after seeking opinions, and it turned out nice. Picture of completed deck in next message. Tonight I'll dye it and glass in the morning or afternoon tomorrow depending on temps and lake conditions.
