Skin-on-Frame: 1/4 scale model

I posted this today at Qajaqusa, but I think I actually did the mentioned archive search on SOF models here. Anyway, I think the post is relevant to both sites. I'm interested in functional models - I'm currently making a 1/4 scale model of a design I'm working on, and am looking for ideas for covering it. I using the model to settle on stringer placement and check trim of a Yost-style SOF design. I'll probably be removing the skin to alter the frame, then re-skinning it multiple times; it doesn't have to be pretty, but I would like to avoid wrinkles which would be proportionally large at this scale.

I've found nice photo accounts of SOF models built by Dave Isbell, Don Goss, Duane Strosaker and Ross Leidy (his model is strip built). But these models seem primarily decorative. If anyone has used a model to check hydrodynamics and trim, I'd like to hear about it, as I plan to get mine in the water, and possibly a tow-tank (if I can get the facility functional).
