: Anybody out there got a picture of a Caribou that you could post? I have
: never seen so much conversation on the BB about a boat (except for Capt.
: America's jewel).
Gee, I think I have a few........ I'll have to dust off my photo album, (first I need to find it!), and fire up my scanner.
I would personally like to thank ALL of the wonderful and special individuals who have purchased a Caribou, paddled a Caribou, built their own version of a Caribou, and have followed its history. I am humbled by the attention that the boat still receives; nearly 20 years after the very first prototype, stitch-and-tape Caribou slipped into the Atlantic Ocean. That was on a very cold February day, (sea smoke was present), underneath the Thompson Island bridge, (to Mount Desert Island), in 1989. Who knew what an incredible journey that boat would take! But, that's what love does; it just keeps going. And, it was pure "love" that designed and built the first two dozen Caribous, (and it was pure love of the owner's buying them!!!).
A thank you to Brian Henry, (Current Designs), for his interest and vision. A BIG thank you to We-No-Nah Canoe! I love getting e-mails from you! ("Please send more licenses.") Currently, there are over 1,500 "Bous" making their way across sparkling waters. Thank you!!!
Me? I move from "community" to community. After the launch of the Caribou and the licensing of the design, I stepped into the traditional archery community. I won the indoor Maine State Championships in 1995. After that, I stepped into the digital video community, (almost as expensive as building the Caribou......). I am now in the Adventure Motorcycle Community. I ride a Suzuki DL-650 V-Strom. I purchased it on March 31, 2007. As of today, I have over 21,300 miles on the bike, (3 tires, two sprockets, 1 chain, and 1 deer....). I have ridden this bike EVERY day since the middle of April, rain or shine, sunny or dark, (I have snow tires on order.....). I ride about 1,000 miles every weekend, by myself, usually in the Canadian Provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick. I love it!!!
For those of you who remember two little girls who helped me "build" the Caribous in my shed, Caitlin is now 20 and Elizabeth is 18 1/2. They are the two most beautiful women you will find! And, wonderful friends too.
Thank you again. I will send some pictures in the near future.
Sincerely,
Barry Buchanan
