50 year old Craftsmen Bandsaw

I have had my old used Craftsman pot metal casting bandsaw since the late seventies and I have always considered it crappy but sufficient for light work. I just googled the model number and found out just how old it is.

Specifications:
Machine Type: Band Saw Description/Model: Model 103.24280 Bandsaw
Machine Size: 12" Date of manufacture: 1953/54
by Seely-King for Sears.

I bought it to cut hundreds of minicell walls and knee braces for the early plastic kayaks (Hollowforms and Perceptions)lately it has seen a lot more crude wood cuts. Replaced the motor and tires.

I still think it is crappy but definitely a good value.

Best,

Reg

: A 10" bandsaw is too light-duty and probably isn't worth fixing. I have
: a Bosh jigsaw and use it a lot, but there are some jobs that are just
: better done on a bandsaw. My bandsaw is an ancient Craftsman, which was
: OLD when I bought it 38years ago. I have replaced: Bearings, motor, guides
: and tires but will probably not wear it out in my lifetime.
: As to the "blade drift" issue, that is usually caused by a bad
: blade. Either dull or the set on one side has been damaged. Other causes
: could be bad or poorly set guides or the top guide too far above the work.
: Do your self a favor and ask Santa for new 14" bandsaw for Christmas.
: And your old one? It probably isn't heavy enough for a good anchor. Take
: some duct tape and tape a silver dollar to the table of it and bury it in
: your back yard. That way when someone finds it and digs it up someday they
: won't have totally wasted their time.
