I paddled one briefly at a CLC demo a few years back. My recollection is that it tracks like a train, so I'd have to believe that a rudder would be a good idea. I don't recall any particular stability problems; it was comfortable to paddle. I do remember trying to talk someone out of building one to use as a fast touring kayak. The Pax20 is a pure racing boat.
