The current crop of fishing kayaks are purpose built designs with a list of features as long as your arm. Plus, rotomolding lets them produce hull shapes that are probably impossible in wood. Every 20 minutes another hull comes out of the mold with a seat, footwell, baitbox, beer storage, rod holders and on and on. And the prices are low enough that building one in wood for less is a pipe dream.
One maker has an ad featuring a guy about 60 years old standing in one flycasting. Somehow, they have got the stability thing nailed down.
They are not all around boats. They are heavy and wide and I wouldn't want to go touring in one. But for fishing they are the cat's pajamas and in a price range most folks can afford.
Just a thought - but you might take a look at the new Wood Duck kayaks that
: CLC sells kits/plans for. Might fit the bill. They also sell a SOT that
: Nick designed.
