: Here is how I extended my reach while building the Shearwater Merganser. I
: had to access the front and back areas where the deck attaches to the hull
: through the hatch openings.

Hatch openings sure make this part of the building of a kayak easier!

: I used this rig to tack the seams before
: rolling in the presoaked fiberglass tape the next day.

I used a similar rig, but I rigged PVC fittings to the syringe, and inserted the fittings into a longer PVC pipe, that was big enough for me to insert a smaller diameter PVC pipe into it in order to depress the syringe. It was still a messy process, and it helped if the Epoxy was on the runny side, and if the boat was turned on it's side in order for the "gobbledy goop" or "gooply smutchs" (or whatever Mr. Schade writes in his book) to run "down hill into the crevace. It also helped to have the exterior of the seam taped so the smuts wouldn't drool out of the crevace.

: This method works great but WASTES epoxy

I don't see a way around that, except to build a canoe instead of a kayak.
