Chuck I have never used Kevlar but I did use a 4-inch strip of polypropylene as a rub strip on the bottom center length of my hull and up the stem. This is tuff stuff. I could hardly cut it or work it but it does wet out clear after a lot of effort. It fuzzes up after a coat of epoxy but does work down to look just like regular glass. The bottom center length area of hull looks just like glass in the picture if you are after the natural look.

Ren RP-3260 surface coat is a blue epoxy filled with carbide that is beyond tough, that we used for tooling masters. It is thick and would have to be heated to thin and quickly applied. Nearly impossible to sand to file, it would wear rocks away.
