NiMH batteries are typically smaller and lighter than NiCD batteries of equivalent power, but they tend to self-discharge over time (~10%/month is the number I've heard the most). If you have the option, get one of the new models with lithium-ion batteries. They pack even more power than NiMH, weigh substantially less and don't self-discharge. Of course, they're more expensive, too.
