: dowel? Oak, while a great bending wood simply will not work. Red or white.

Havn't tried it but I suspect if you soak the dowels for a day or so then use a heat gun to apply local heating that the dowels will bend just fine. I've used that process with larger wood members successfully. Even kiln dried material works this way. (does take awile for the wood to dry afterwards though)
