: I want to build a strip plank racing ski similar to a Fenn Millenium.

: I have already built a couple of strip sea kayaks but I want something that
: will go a bit faster. I like the design of the mystery and the K1's but I
: would prefer a boat I can easily get back in to if I fall out in open
: water. Rough dimensions 6000-6400mm long by 440mm wide.

: If I can not find a plan I will have to measure a boat that I know and draw
: it out or use a CAD package.

: 1)Does anyone know where I can find designs of racing skis?
: 2)Does anyone have experience making racing skis using strip planks?
: 3)Is it a difficult process to measure a boat and draw it up?

: I have place a link to the type of boat I am interested in-

: Cheers

Good luck, I've wanted to do the same thing and there is nothing at all available. And apparently very little interest in any of the designers doing it either. Not real hard taking lines off of an existing boat, but doing a direct copy isn't being real nice (semi-illegal) to the designer. Doing it as a basis to start a new design though is fine.

Around here finding one to make lines from would be the trick, never have seen one in person in the midwest. Pretty much have to travel to the coasts to find one. The boat won't be competitive btw, will end up being heavy compared to the factory built ones.

I've given thought to using the Kayak Foundry software and modifing Nick's Mystery design as a hull then mocking up the deck from scratch. I suspect that the Mystery's hull will have a bit too little stability unless you're an expert on these boats and even then will be pretty difficult to stay on the boat. Since you're sitting up higher (the cockpit has to be raised or it won't drain) you're going to be less stable than sitting nearly on the bottom like you'd do in conventional yak.

Still would be nice if one of the existing designers would tackle the plans, guess it's not gonna happen .
