Kudzu - you're using Freeship aren't you? If so there's no need to guess stuff like waterline beam from looking at the model. From one of the menus across the top there is the option to calculate design parameters (or something like that). If you hit that you'll get a new screen up with loads of numbers, including waterline length and beam, the transverse metacentric height I was talking about, and many more.
