Ask NASA what the lost Mars probe cost, the one that couldn't land because it was measuring in metric units but calculating position in inperial units, OOPS!

Perhaps the reason we can't figure out metric is because we are no longer taught the latin that all the prefixes come from. The only tough part to get is liters/100 kilometers, that would require math to be meaningful with more day to day distances. Oh yeah, we are no longer taught math skills either. So much for being globaly competitive.
