: Here's my concern. This is my first strip-built project. I've finished
: strippin' the hull on this 17 foot Dovkie(design by Chip Chandler in
: Maine). I have fliiped her over with forms in place. In this design, the
: hull is a full curve and the sheer strip is perpindicular to the floor.
: The deck is much flatter ie. a shallow curve that sits on the hull like a
: lid on a pot. His instructions advise not to start the first strip around
: the sheer because of the tightness of the curve but to start up the deck a
: bit. Strip to the center and then work down later over lapping the hull
: edge and cutting off the excess later.

: I would prefer to start decking by running a strip around the sheer. I have
: tested this and the strip seems to go quite nicely around the sheer line
: and secures cleanly to the hull and forms with staples. I'm wondering if
: the tension I'm creating by doing this is going to deform the deck when I
: remove it from the forms. This is the only explanation I can come up with
: for Mr. Chandler's written advice not to strip from the sheer line.

: Anybody want to take a shot at this???

That's how I stripped the deck on mine, works fine, though I needed skinnier strips to make the bend.
