: Steve--One thing that might require a bit of clarification--You said that
: your plans called for one piece of glass for each side of the hull. Why
: not one wide piece running gunnel to gunnel?
: Mike
The hull at the widest point is slightly more than 60", which is the widest glass I've found. Overlapping the glass at the keel also allows me to get a double thickness at a major stress point (although I could have accomplished this with a single piece, and an additional strip), and gives me some extra room to lay it on a bias.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I'm hoping to get the final sanding done this weekend and then bite the bullet and glass the following. I built a pirogue about 10 years ago and had trouble getting the glass to play nicely (the fast epoxy didn't help matters). It was intended from the beginning to be a beater boat, so it wasn't really an issue, but this one is just too pretty to screw up like that, and I guess once bitten twice shy.
