My first build (see link) was a hard chine CLC 16 footer and the second a Shearwater Bluefin (multi-chine). The hard chine was somewhat easier. CLC's book and DVD are useful to read and watch.

Before you start your trip make sure you sit in your boat for some long hours so that you can get the seat right.

Advantage of the kayak on the Mississippi . You are partially protected from bug bites.
