Thanks very much for the replies and suggestions. I have read a fair amount about foils in the last day or so, which has mainly lead me to understand how little I know…

I can sail (most of my experience being on cats or sailboards) but until raised by a contributor, had not thought about the reality of tacking into a breeze, with both a pressured foil and long narrow kayak hull in the water. If nothing else, the rudder blade will need to be radically bigger, which in turn may call for a whole new rudder setup. Some of the foils that are used on sailing craft a very mechanically complex, which is something I would normally avoid. Also, it seems that foils will be more effective at providing lift at higher speeds, or at least the upper end of the range than I had in mind to sail at.

Chris thanks heaps for your offer of assistance and pointers to websites. Both the trimaran and Lunada Bay were intriguing! The Lunada bay would be an excellent boat to fish from. You would get a great sensation of speed in the tri, being so close to the water. The video reminded me of the dynamic forces at play, with the steady wind, gusts, normal waves and bigger ones from big boat washes at play, sometimes all at the same time.

I’ll keep reading, and let you all know of any progress I may make.
