No skeg needed, I would think. Vaclav's note about same was written before any SLTs were built. (He hasn't built the boat, to my knowledge, and the design was originally offered as "kayaks in plans" on his site. His comments were more in the way of predictions.)

As for our boat, my wife is strictly a fair-weather paddler and likes flat lakes, and the occasional trip with me on SF Bay when it's mild. When I paddled the boat I was able to go straight with no problem. Of course, I'm way too big for it, and if I really dig in I can induce plenty of yaw. The boat responds very well to leaned turns, but tracks nicely when paddled by its intended user. It's very pretty, too.
