I built the rudder intending to mount it on my Cape Ann. The rudder was a great little project and Vaclav has some good ideas on how to mount it on the stern. I'm very pleased with the result and used his parts kit to simplify the building. I've not yet mounted the rudder on the Cape Ann since it really doesn't need it, it tracks really well.
I used the Kajak Sport footpegs rather than sliding footpegs like those from Yakima. Those footpegs attach to a regular mounted set of footpegs (I used the Keepers). They are attached using flexible rubber posts. You then can attach a cable to the footpeg for operating the rudder. You get the benefits of fixed solid footpegs and still having good rudder control A side benefit is the ability to flex your feet anytime which makes for a more comfortable paddle. I've included the link to the Kajak Sport footpegs, they are pricey (about $50)but after using them for a season, they are really nice and I'd buy them again.
