Depending on the type of lip you're making you may be able to round it before installing it. That's what I did with the laminated ash lip on my SOF coaming. I rounded over the edge of the stock on the router table, then ripped 2, 1/4 x 1/4" strips from it, one of which had the rounded edge. After tapering the ends, bending and gluing, all that was necessary was minor touch-up sanding at the seam.

It would seem to be an easy thing to round a plywood lip prior to installation, as well.
