In Response To: Strip: Inlaying & staining strips (Chas Bernstein)

: First off Chas, I meant to respond to your post last Saturday, I live outside of Clinton NJ. I am working on the deck right now and just laid a 1/2"black strip along the shear for accent. I am planning a couple of red ones on the deck top. I am using an ebony stain which I got from Garret Wade in NY. I'm planning to epoxy a test strip (you'd think I'd do this first) soon to be sure the epoxy will adhere but I dont think it will be a problem. I'm more concerned about run but since this one is the shear it will have no where to run. Another concern is fairing. You want to make sure the accent strip is "finished" well because you wont be able to plane or sand it once it's in place. On the subject of adhesion again, I'm only staining on the exterior thus the underdeck surface will be well held. Good Luck, JJ.

I'm a kayak building virgin! I've just got my set of plans for an Expedition
: Sport and am thinking about deck & hull designs.

: Would inlaying a 5/8" ceder strip with continuous 36" x 3/8"
: veneer 1/32" thick be an option for a single strip around the hull?

: Can I stain ceder strips (I'm thinking a rich red color) for decoration be an
: option?

: Thanks in advance

: Chas
