I just completed(except for a few minor details) a Shooting Star using 3.2 oz cloth. I used 2 layers in and out except for one layer inside the deck. I used some unidirectional carbon tape for reinforcememt in places and some carbon cloth in a other locations (inside). The boat came out a little over 30 pounds.I precoated the wood and let it dry. The layup was done one layer at a time allowing the first layer to catylize so as to not be tacky. The process was a lot more time consuming than other boats I have built using coarser weave cloth. Wet out and squeegeeing was a real pain in the butt.It took very little resin to fill the fine weave. It did produce a light boat that I believe will be quite strong, however. I would not reccomend doing it this way as a first time experience. I can't imagine laying that fine weave cloth down on wet epoxy. Good Luck and enjoy!
