Strip: joining deck and hull

I have built two cedar strip kayaks and on both I used a cove on the deck and started with a bead on the hull. When I join the two allignment "pops" into place. Anyone else tried this? I should mention that I used electrical tape in the cove to prevent epoxy build up. Any epoxy that got on it popped off as I pulled the tape off.

Anyway, just curious if others had used the technique or if anyone was interested in trying it as opposed to planing the joints between hull and deck
