Seeking: Ideas for adjustable foot braces

I am looking for ideas on building a set of adjustable foot braces. I have used the adjustable bulkhead type that is in Nick's book, but I didn't like the adjuster being on the floor. I guess I'm a little picky, but it would be much easier to sponge up/clean up if the floor were clear of obstacles. Also, it interferes with setting my beverage bottle/can sqarely on the floor in front of me :)

I seem to recall seeing that someone had made adjustable sliders out of electrical pvc, but can't locate that info.

If anyone has a source or experience with an acceptable method, the info would be greatly appreciated
