Hi George - I have used it mostly for filling over screws on my guide boat hull before glassing and painting. On bare wood, I've used it to fill spruce, which is almost a perfect match. I've only done one fill in cedar (red) and mixed some cedar sanding dust in with it. It seemed to work fine, but coloring could have been better. I believe the Durham's web site gives some advice on coloring. See the One Ocean Kayaks site, the Workshop, about filling using Durham's. The URL is http://www.oneoceankayaks.com/index.htm.

For filling gaps and cracks in strips, I prefer thickened and colored epoxy, despite the aversion to it by some builders. It is structural, forming a bond with the cracks in the wood, unlike the Durham's and similar non-bonding fillers. Properly handled, it can be color matched well, and the epoxy wet out coat also bonds with it. I have some further information on filling in my web site (below).

Good luck filling. Hope I've been of some help. - John
