Epoxy: mixing by weight - scales

I re-read the thread from last August, about mixing by weight using a balance beam, and saw a link about making a simple and accurate beam scale out of wood.

There is a note in one of the responses about the pivot point location affecting the sensitivity of the scale, the 'warning' before you over-pour. Can anybody expand on this? Moving the pivot point above the beam reduces or increases sensitivity?
