Paddle: Paddle weights

My first two prototype hollow-cored Greenland paddles are (finally...) almost done finishing. I made a balance-beam scale, with a 2:1 ratio on the beam length. Zeroing it carefully, and using water on the long side (doubling the measured weight for actual) I got:

27 oz on the second one, 25 oz on the first one. My storm paddle, the replacement for 'the rock' weighs in at 21.2 oz. I think these are accurate to 1/2oz or so.

The next ones will be a little heavier, as I had too thin tips on the 25oz one. Feels like a great paddle though! It has glass on the blades, for the first 7" or so, to make up for the thin tips. A little flexy, like that 'ultrathin' fir one I gave away but with a much beefier loom.

Is this good? It feels good to me... I seem to recall seeing commercial greenland paddles in the 32-34 oz range. I do have a solid cedar cored paddle that weighs 29 oz. I didnt weigh the rock... Probably about 40 :)

I could try putting the paddle on the long side, and halfing the measured weight - that should be more accurate, as the volume of water is measured more accurately?
