: As mentioned it's an acrylic canvas, a twill I think. Don't now why it
: wouldn't due for covering except it isn't cheap and its main
: characteristics are UV resistance and freedom from rot. You'd be paying
: for the UV protection and then having to cover it with your water
: proofing. This stuff is incredible, left in the sun it lasts for years.
: Usually the dacron stitching degrades and has to be redone every few
: years, but the Sunbrella just keeps on truckin'. Defender.com has the best
: prices I've seen.
gentleman, first let me say it was nice to see geo back on the board again,
secondly i feel it important to point out something about the said fabric. i've been to sailrite...the actual store. it is located in columbia city, in., about one hour of driving for me from south bend. the ony reason this is revelant is because i got to bend the ear of one of the owners of the store for 30 minutes or so. i talked to him about a fabric for a s.o.f kayak. he began to laugh and said," oh! you must have read one of those books, we get you kind of people all the time!" he then gave the nickel tour of the shop. literally showing me every fabric that they carry. the fabrics there were awesome. tough as nails. only one problem, all of there fabric come preshrunk. he then went on to tell me that it would be near impossible to bend the sail fabric tightly around the bow and stern and not get wrinkles.
this being said, would it still be ideal to use on a s.o.f.? i don't know and i've resolved to go the route of everyone else and buy from dyson....though more expensive to ship vs. driving there and having a zillion colors to pick from. i'd like to hear some feedback concering the whole "preshrunk" fabric.
can it still be used in a s.o.f. application?
build on,
